Comments: REPORT ON WORLD WIDE WRAP X FEBRUARY 7, 2010 AT BETH DAVID B’NAI ISRAL BETH AM CONGREGATION

At our Synagogue, Brotherhood planning for this year’s world wide wrap has been on-going for several months. In fact we were, I believe, the second to register at FJMC for this event. We consider ourselves to be doubly fortunate to have a group of members on our Board that have years of experience in organizing the past series of world wide wraps starting the very first one. More importantly that we have on our own Brotherhood Board, Stan Greenspan FJMC VP International. This year’s event of the WWW X has had it major theme of the fruition of the proposal to establish a web based (Skype) hook-up with other Synagogues. We achieved this with great success with Stan’s creation of a massive web connection. Much of this credit is due to others at FJMC who indeed contributed greatly to make this a reality.

On the day of the WWW X – February 7, 2010, just 5 minutes before davening commenced, Stan informed me that we had succeeded in establishing contacts with three other Synagogues. We are grateful to our Rabbi Philip Scheim and to Michael Rubin, our Ritual Director for permitting our large screen and DVD projectors with miles of cables and bus bars across and to the rear of the Chapel. The first contact was with Beth Torah in North Miami Florida to see in person our own Beth David members who spend their winters there. Quickly it led to connection with Mishkan Tefillah Synagogue of Dan Grenadir Chair FJMC WWW X and Ira Ungar. We made contact with Rabbi Claudio Jodorkowsky and his Synagogue in Bogota Columbia through Michael Abadi, VP Latin America FJMC.

With regard to media coverage, we had Frances Kraft, Correspondent of the Canadian Jewish News taking photographs along with services of our own hired professional photographer. On conclusion of morning services all participants took part in group photographs. Our own photographs will be on Synagogue website shortly. The CJN material will come out in the next issue of the paper. Later, all members were invited to enhanced breakfast sponsored by Brotherhood.

After breakfast and benching, Rabbi Michael Skobac, renowned Educator and Lecturer delivered a most interesting, enlightened drasha, mixed with real anecdotes, on the real inner meaning of the wearing of Tefillin. Brotherhood raffled a Teffilin and Talith covers. Incidentally won by a couple those son will be Bar Mitzvah in coming weeks. Very timely gift indeed. This year WWW X has been unique, a wonderful & meaningful experience to our entire Congregation. Technology really does work in wondrous ways.
